As the leaves turn into beautiful warm colours this autumn, our friends at Green Bike Tours are keen to show you the best spots in Berlin with a green twist – learn about the sustainable development and what can be done to ensure it remains a focus in the city’s future.
Below is a list of some of their favourite spots to cycle to in Berlin:
Along the Spree river and explore some of the best of Berlin!
The Spree river that runs through Berlin, is 400 km long. By following a 21 km bike route along the Spree river you will explore Berlin from the best way – on a bike – and see many of the highlights the city has to offer such as Brandenburger Gate, Potsdamer Platz, Tiergarten and more.
Tempelhofer Feld
The former airport turned into a public recreational oasis might be some of the best Berlin has to offer! The former landing area today has a six-kilometre cycling, skating and jogging trail, a BBQ area, a dog park and community urban gardens. It is truly a unique place to sit in the sun and watch the world go by.
Holzmarkt25
Visit an urban mini-society with a focus on creativity and sustainability in the city development by the Spree river. A village within the city with 20 different projects and companies within art, culture, restaurants, food, live music, urban farming and even a kindergarten. A big plus is that the space is largely open-air and event organisers can adhere to the new social-distancing rules for safe interaction.
Prinzessingarten
This social-ecological urban farming project has more than 10 years history of local community building and regenerative agriculture. This is a super cool place to walk in from the street and really enjoy the feeling of a garden in the city – it is also a super nice place to eat lunch. There are gardens in both Kreuzberg and Neukölln.
Tiergarten
This is the oldest urban public park in Berlin with its 500 years history and also it’s the largest man-made park of the city with its area of about 200 hectares. The park offers both exceptionally landscaped areas and many opportunities for relaxation. Nice cycle from Brandenburger Gate right down to the Victory Column. You can bring a picnic and find your own private spot.
